Descrizione
Il Carnevale è la festa dei bambini che da sempre a Putignano, come in ogni parte del mondo, partecipano con entusiasmo attraverso costumi e travestimenti variopinti. Il clown è il simbolo del Carnevale ed invita i bambini a partecipare alla festa.
Un invito che vuole essere un richiamo a tutti a vivere il Carnevale con lo spirito di leggerezza e allegria che appartiene ai più piccoli, partendo proprio dal travestimento.
Un modo per immergersi nello spirito del Carnevale e diventare protagonista dell’evento, coinvolgendo chi si incontra sul percorso.
Il clown protagonista della scultura è ispirato ad uno dei pupi più celebri dei carri allegorici realizzati dal Maestro Impedovo, in particolare il carro dal titolo “Tasse e pensieri. Pagliacci e giocolieri” sfilato nell’edizione del 2007.
Cenni storici e aneddoti
Sul finire degli anni ’90 i maestosi carri allegorici di Putignano erano caratterizzati da numerosi bambini che, in maschera, cantavano, ballavano e lanciavano coriandoli sugli spettatori.
Nel regolamento della manifestazione era previsto anche un numero minimo obbligatorio di figuranti sul carro, indicato in almeno 40 persone. Oggi le misure di sicurezza hanno limitato invece la presenza di persone sui carri allegorici. Questo vincolo è stato trasformato in una sfida vita dai maestri cartapestai che da un’idea iniziale di gruppi mascherati che accompagnavano il carro a terra si è trasformata in una vera e propria integrazione con l’opera. Le scenografie sono sempre più coinvolgenti, suggestive e coerenti con il messaggio satirico e/o allegorico del carro in una vero e proprio spettacolo che integra cartapesta e maschere.

Carnival is the festival in which the children of Putignano, and the rest of the world, celebrate with enthusiasm through colourful costumes and dress-ups. The clown is the symbol of Carnival and invites children to take part in the party.
An invite that wants everyone to celebrate Carnival with a feeling of lightness and happiness that usually belongs to the youngest.
A way to dive into the Carnival spirit and become the main character, involving everyone that you bump into on the way.
The clown, or the protagonist of the sculpture, is inspired by one of the most famous puppets made by craftsman Impedovo for his parade floats, titled “Tasse e pensieri. Pagliacci e giocolieri” (lit. Taxes and thoughts. Clowns and jugglers), from 2007.
Historical hints and anecdotes
At the end of the 90s, the majestic parade floats of Putignano were characterised by numerous children that sang, danced and threw confetti at the spectators while in costume.
In the rules of the parade, the mandatory minimum number of people on each float was 40. Today, security measures have limited the presence of people on the floats. This restriction was taken as a challenge by the paper-mâché craftsmen, with groups of masked dancers accompanying the float on land as an integral part of the float. The scenographies are more and more involving, suggestive and coherent with the satirical message in a proper show that integrates paper-mâché and masks.
